| I'm glad that they had a Champions Online open beta. I didn't have to pay anything to figure out that it's just WoW with flight powers.
But, I do have to say that I did really like the swinging travel power.
Of the things I didn't like, having only 8 characters, unless you buy more. The graphics really start to grate after more than a few minutes. There's a button on the map for microtransactions. There's no way to transfer settings from one character to another. The opening area is really cool, the first time you play it. After the first time you play it, it's full of hate. I hate competing with other players for mission objectives. I hate having to get loot. I hate "This item starts a new storyline".
It is different from CoX, but different doesn't always mean better. They have done a good job at removing all of the things that made City different from other MMOs, and turned it into an open-world grindfest.
Any game where I run out of things to do in the first real zone, other than grinding, doesn't really want me to play it. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| Quite possibly the best song which has ever been created by human hands, or, well, one of them.
I can never listen to this and not stop whatever I'm doing, close my eyes, and just live inside of it for the duration.

| I just found out about these guys, like, yesterday, or perhaps the day before, and I can't stop listening to these two songs of theirs.
Polite Dance Song
Love Letter to Japan
I just love that sorta retro 70's-ish style. Both of those songs make me want to dance, and that's not easy to do.
Just to further cement that style, here's a cover they did of How Deep Is Your Love
I guess I really was born in the 70's. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| I've posted about him before, but Brandon Bird (the one who did the picture of Bea Arthur wrestling velociraptors) has a shop now, and one of the things he is selling is a Bob Ross surfing with a dog, in heaven shirt.
I know that some of my friends may be interested in this, or the various other art prints he has up on the store. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| I just found out that Cinematic Titanic is going to be here on the 15th and 16th of May, and wanted to know if anyone wanted to go with before I purchase my tickets.
Each night is going to be a different movie, so I will be going on both nights. Anyone interested in going? Anyone? | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |

| I just found out that this weekend is the superbowl.
So, in that spirit, I give you "Supabuh".
Yeah, it's from two years ago, but it's still relevant. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Alright, so, I haven't really posted anything about this recently, but I've been in the process of upgrading my computer over the past two months.
Back on November, I went to Fry's and got all of the various parts, an Intel DP43TF motherboard, an Intel Core 2 Q9550 quad-core processor, an Nvidia GTX 280, and a 1TB hard drive. I had already had to replace my power supply a few months earlier, so I had the ports for a SATA hard drive, so I figured I was all good.
I had to order new cooling blocks for my liquid cooling system once I had the actual components, and knew what to order. That took about a week for them to get here, and after that it was on!
Or, well, it wasn't. I was able to get the old components out, and install the new motherboard, GPU (after prying the fan off), and then installing the cooling blocks, and getting the tubing run between the two components. I then tried to hook the new nozzles to the old heat pump. Turns out I got 13mm (1/2") nozzles and hoses for the new system, but the old system was only 10mm (3/8"). After several trips to Lowes, I was able to find a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter for the hoses, and moved on.
Next, I found that the RAM I had for my old system was DDR, and the new system only accepts DDR2 ram. So, back to Fry's to pick up 4 2gb sticks. Got that all installed, and everything should now be good and ready to go, right?
So, I fill back up the liquid cooling system, and turn everything on, and... nothing. Try again, and, again, nothing.
At this point I gave up, because it was December, and I had a lot more to worry about than my computer. Luckily I still have my lapto, so I was using that.
Come to this weekend, and I decide that over this long weekend, I'm going to get everything working, even if I have to take it to a computer shop. I start looking through all of the documentation again, and I find out that my graphics card, the beast that it is, requires not one, but TWO PCI-E plugs to power it. My new power supply doesn't have the second plug I need, so I make a trip down to Best Buy, and pick up another power supply that will power everything, hook everything up, and voila, it's working!
And then it stops working.
After a little research, and some looking, and some time thinking, I figured out that the CPU cooling block had the input and output nozzles parallel, so it's likely that there was a big air pocket in the CPU cooling block. I rotated the CPU cooling block, and I was able to get everything booted, and get XP installed on the new drive.
And then I find out that XP is a 32-bit OS, and only supports up to 3gb of ram. So now I'm running Vista (blech).
Anyway, so, now I get everything loaded, and start playing City, and, after about 30 seconds, everything shuts down. Great, something else to worry about. I do some testing, look at some graphs, and find out that my GPU is hitting about 115 C before cutting out. So, now, along with everything else, I need to get a new liquid cooling radiator, that is twice as powerful as the one I have now. Hopefully that will do SOMETHING and get my kick-ass system working with no problems.
I'm able to do basic stuff on it, like browse the web, and anything that's not graphics intensive. I've got a pretty much top of the line system right now, but I can't use it for what it's built for because of the heating problem. Hopefully next week, after I get the new cooling system, and re-tube everything, I can actually use it, and FINALLY play Fallout 3 with the settings up all the way up.
I'm just glad I didn't try to go SLI. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
